| July 2005: Rebel was adopted
from the Bureau of Land Management's wild horse adoption program along
with Drifter, also a yearling colt. Rebel was rounded up in Nevada
in December 2004 when he was approximately 6 months old.
Naturally, Rebel has no training and is still very "wild". We will
allow him to settle into his new surroundings and let him get
comfortable with humans before attempting any training. November 2005: Rebel is doing well and has settled in fairly well. We have been able to work with him to the point that he is relatively halter broke, however he is still very difficult to catch and is not comfortable being touched anywhere besides his forehead. Our vet came out and gelded him, and while he was anesthetized we also trimmed his hooves. We will continue to work slowly and patiently with Rebel, giving him how ever much time he needs to learn to trust us. August 2006: Rebel has been adopted and is now learning to trust and accept handling by a 12 year old boy. They make a great team and Rebel is progressing in leaps and bounds! |
