Nifty...

Age: 19 years      Training: broke to ride

Breed:  Reg. Quarter Horse    Gender:  Mare

PASSED AWAY:  OCTOBER 2006

April 2006: Nifty is a flea bitten gray mare that has several cancerous tumors.  Her previous owner was no longer able to give her the extra care that she required to maintain a healthy weight and remain comfortable.  With a special diet of senior feed and alfalfa, Nifty has gained weight and seems to be feeling better.  Due to her condition, Nifty is a permanent resident at the rescue and will live here as long as she is comfortable and not suffering.  Nifty is gentle and well broke and occasionally gives short rides to children visiting the rescue, however due to tumors in her mouth she cannot be ridden with a bit.

October 2006: Nifty has been showing signs of discomfort and pain from her multiple tumors.  She has begun to lose weight and the sores and tumors in her mouth are making eating difficult for her.  Our vet felt that nothing more could be done for her, and the decision was made to euthanize Nifty and she is buried here at the rescue.
