OCTOBER 2009  Lona's Love ("Lona") is a beautiful registered thoroughbred mare with a very sweet and gentle disposition.  She raced in her younger years and then became a broodmare.  She is in very good condition, but the stable where she was previously used as a broodmare was downsizing and she needed a new home.  Her previous owner didn't want her to be sold at auction and face possible slaughter due to her age and the poor economy, so Lona was brought to us so she could find a new, loving forever home.  Lona will be available for adoption as soon as she finishes her standard quarantine period and would make an excellent companion horse, or with a little refresher training, she could possibly be used for riding.

NOVEMBER 2009 Lona has completed her quarantine and has been turned out in our large pasture with our other retired broodmares and older geldings.  She put on quite a show racing around and exploring her new pasture.  Lona is now available for adoption and is looking for her new forever home.

AUGUST 2011 Over the last couple of years, we have had a difficult time finding a reliable, competent farrier.  Nearly a year ago, we were finally lucky enough to get on a regular 6 week schedule with one of the most knowledgeable and skilled farriers in our area.  Unfortunately, Lona's front feet had suffered from several poor trims which resulted in abscessing and severe cracks.  After several months under the care of our new farrier, including special wedges, custom shoes, supplements, conditioners, etc. Lona's hooves have improved greatly and the cracks have nearly disappeared.  She now wears just regular shoes on her front feet.  She is a very sweet girl and endured all of the treatments and sore feet without becoming aggressive or mean.  She would make a wonderful companion horse or loving pet and only requires regular hoof trims with shoes on her front feet to keep her sound.
