2005:  Lady returned to the rescue recently and will remain here as a permanent resident.  She was rescued from an auction a few years ago by one of our members before Angel Horse Rescue was formed. She was severely underweight and her teeth were worn to the gums.  Once she had achieved a healthy weight, she was donated to a rescue.  While under the care of that rescue, she broke her leg and her physical condition deteriorated so we picked her up and brought her back here.  Her broken leg has healed, however it appears to have been broken in more than one place and is very crooked.  She does bear weight on it, but she walks awkwardly.  She has lost a lot of weight, but she is receiving her special senior diet now and is beginning to respond, albeit very slowly.  She has a long way to go and she is under constant monitoring. She is an absolute sweetheart and loves attention and grooming.  Due to her advanced age and crippled leg, she will remain here at the rescue as a cherished permanent resident for the rest of her life.

October 2006:  Unfortunately, Lady has begun to lose weight again and is showing signs of severe discomfort and pain due to her crippled rear leg and arthritis in her front knees.  She requires assistance to get up at times when she lies down to rest in the pasture.  We feel that her quality of life has reached a point where she is suffering with no hope of recovery.  Our final act of kindness is to gently ease her out of this painful life.  With the aid of our vet, Lady passed on quietly and comfortably in familiar surroundings and is buried here at the rescue.
