JUNE 2007 Dottie arrived at Angel Horse Rescue as a result of many caring individuals pulling together and raising the funds to save several pregnant mares and mares with newborn foals from a slaughterhouse feedlot in Texas. Angel Horse Rescue drove to Lubbock, TX and picked up two of these mares along with their foals and brought them to the rescue. Dottie and her colt are both suffering from rainrot and malnourishment. Dottie is underweight and the demands of a newborn colt are taking a toll on her physical condition. We are adding corn oil and rice bran to her feed to add calories but it will take quite a while to get her up to an ideal weight while the colt is still nursing. Right now we want to give her the optimum nutrition so that she will be able to produce enough milk for the little one.
AUGUST 2007 Dottie has settled in and is becoming very friendly. She is somewhat head shy, but likes to be rubbed and petted on her neck and body. She is a very sweet, quiet and gentle mare. It took some effort to get a halter on her so that we could worm her and once we had it on, she did not lead or show any signs of being halter broke.

JANUARY 2008 Dottie has regained a healthy weight and appears to be 100% physically sound. Although Dottie has learned to trust us and is friendly and enjoys being petted and scratched, she remains terrified of being haltered. Dottie will be available for adoption as soon as Smokey has been weaned, however she will require a special home willing to take the time and patience needed to overcome her past.
AUGUST 2008 Dottie has found her forever home with a wonderful adopter that will patiently work with Dottie on her headshy issues and allow her to regain her trust in people again.
