JANUARY 2010    Sandi came to the rescue along with Twister as a result of an owner surrender.  He is approximately 20 years old and underweight.  We picked him up from his previous home where he had no shelter or fencing and was kept tied to a telephone pole.  He is a tall boy and can be pushy if you are between him and food (understandable in his circumstances) but he is otherwise a pretty sweet, friendly old guy.  We have affectionately nicknamed him "Moose".  His feet have been neglected and will need some trimming by our farrier, but he seems to be fairly healthy and just needs some good groceries and a little TLC.  When we unloaded him into his new paddock, he was so thirsty that he started eating the first pile of snow he came to.  After making it over to the water trough for a nice long drink, he and Twister took a couple of tours around their paddock and then settled in for some serious consumption of hay.

UPDATE:  Sandi is progressing well.  He tilts his head when he eats which indicates that he probably has some issues with his teeth so we will be having a dental check and tooth floating as soon as he picks up just a little more weight.

MAY 2010:  We have had Sandi's feet trimmed a couple of times trying to get them into better shape.  We also had his teeth floated and he has reached a healthy weight.  He does have some fatty deposits on his rump.   They are harmless according to our vet, but could be evidence that he may develop Cushings disease in the future, so we have him on a supplement to help prevent that.
